Wellbeing
College Counsellors
Our dedicated school counselling service, based in the Wellbeing Centre, offers students a safe, supportive and confidential space to talk openly about their concerns. Our counsellors, including both female and male staff, are highly trained professionals with tertiary qualifications in areas such as social work, psychology and counselling, ensuring students receive informed and compassionate support.
Counsellors work collaboratively with students to explore their thoughts and feelings, develop practical strategies and build resilience. Where appropriate, they also work alongside families and staff to support each student’s individual needs and promote positive outcomes.
Our approach is centred on strengthening the support networks around the student. By working in partnership with parents, teachers and House Leaders, our counsellors help students navigate challenges including:
- Personal Growth: goal setting and organisational skills
- Emotional Wellbeing: stress management and emotional regulation
- Social Connection: relationship building and social skills
- Life Transitions: support through grief and changing family dynamics
Counselling at Gleeson College is handled with respect and confidentiality, with information shared only when necessary to meet student safety and duty of care requirements. If a student needs support beyond what school-based counselling can provide, we work with families to connect them to the right external services and, where helpful, coordinate support to ensure consistent care.
Our Wellbeing Dogs
As part of our holistic approach to wellbeing, students may also have access to our Wellbeing Dogs, who play a valuable role in supporting engagement and emotional regulation. Interaction with the wellbeing dogs can help reduce anxiety, build comfort, and create a positive, calming environment for students during their time in the Wellbeing Centre.
